Team Rensi Motorsports announces Holly as Crew Chief and Director of Competition
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 20, 2003) -- Championship-winning crew chief Harold Holly has been named Crew Chief and Director of Competition for the No. 25 NASCAR Busch Series Ford Taurus owned by Team Rensi effective immediately.
In his new position Holly will be guiding NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. in the United States Marine Corps entry. The team has had a successful 2003 season to date with six top-10 finishes and one top-five finish in twelve starts. In 2002, Hamilton, Jr. drove the No. 25 Team Marines Ford to the team's first victory with a win at New Hampshire International Speedway. Upon completion of the 2002 season, the team had claimed six top-five and 15 top-10 finishes leading them to an eighth place finish in the 2002 driver points standings.
Holly joins Team Rensi with an impressive resume in hand. The Alabama native was half of one of NASCAR's most successful duos. In 1999, after he served as crew chief for NASCAR Busch Series driver Chad Little. Holly joined forces with driver Jeff Green for three historic seasons. The chemistry between Holly and Green was immediate and the No. 10 ppc Racing entry went on to finish the season second in the points standings. With a runner-up finish under their belts, Green and Holly set their sights on the 2000 Busch Series championship.
In 2000, Holly led Green to eight pole positions, six victories, 25 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes on their way to the NASCAR Busch Series championship. Holly and Green went down in the record books not only for scoring the most top-five finishes in a single season, but also taking the 2000 championship trophy by the largest points margin in Busch Series history with a 616 point lead over second place.
Team Rensi President, Sam Rensi, feels Holly can take the No. 25 Team Marines Ford to a new level of performance. "Harold (Holly) is a perfect fit for this team," stated Rensi. "We expect excellence in everything we do and with his track record and proven management skills, Harold is the right man for the challenges ahead. We're extremely excited to have him join our organization."
Holly is equally positive about his new position. "I can't wait to get started," said Holly. "With Bobby (Hamilton, Jr.) behind the wheel and a solid crew behind us we will become the team to beat. I've been brought on board to help this team over the hump and into victory lane. Sam and Ed (Rensi, co-owners of Team Rensi Motorsports) have gathered all the tools necessary for this team to compete for the Busch Series championship. I'm excited to be here and for the future of Team Rensi."
Holly makes debut as crew chief for the No. 25 Team Marines Ford at Dover Downs International Speedway on Saturday, May 31. For more information on Team Rensi Motorsports please log onto www.teamrensimotorsports.com.
