Team Marines racing notes & quotes:
The No. 25 Team Marines, fielded by Team Rensi Motorsports, tested the new pavement at Texas Motor Speedway last week along with 20 other Busch Series and Winston Cup teams. It seems all were in agreement about one thing -- this track was really fast.
Hamilton Jr. is looking forward to returning to Texas, a place where he has qualified in the top-five twice in the last two years, but has posted disappointing finishes both times -- 19th in 2001 and 29th in 2000. The way he sees it, this track owes him one, and he is ready to two-step his way to victory lane.
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on Texas:
"I was telling my Dad after we tested there last week, it doesn't even feel like you are running 100 mph. It's so smooth and it just lets you run wide open. Even through the corners you barely have to lift. The re-surfacing work that they have done to the track since the last time we were here has given it a lot more grip, which makes you feel a lot more secure. It's fast, one of the fastest places we go. And I think it's going to be even faster this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new qualifying record set this weekend. I'm happy with it. I love it! You can really race here. If anyone complains about this place, they don't need to be in a race car, that much is for sure."
Crew chief, Fred Wanke on Texas:
"Really, everything comes into play in Texas, more than at any other track. Horsepower, handling, aerodynamics, chassis, everything must come together perfectly to win there. You need a good-handling car to get through the corners, because with the right set-up a driver can move through them and barely lift. The Ford has a lot of downforce, which is also going to be a factor in sweeping through the corners. But when you hit the straightaways, you need all the horsepower you can get. It's at a track like this when I am thankful to have those Yates engines under the hood. When we tested there last week, Bobby felt pretty comfortable and really liked the feel of the track. I think we may be able to get that top-ten finish that we have been so close to for the last couple of week, if not a trip to victory lane.
