CHAD CHAFFIN --77-- Lear/UAW Taurus "We were coming through the tri-oval and before we got to the corner the car just turned around. I think we probably cut a tire down. It kind of felt like the panhole bar broke, but I'm sure it didn't. When I got done the left-rear tire was shredded. Of course, I know it would have gotten cut down in the wreck anyways, but it was shredded pretty good so I think we cut down a left-rear tire."
DID IT GET KIND OF HOT IN THERE? "No, it wasn't too bad actually. I could see the flames, so I was a little concerned, but I was looking at the dash and the firewall -- there were no flames really coming in the car, so I wasn't necessarily worried about that."
ELTON SAWYER --98-- Lysol Taurus "Our car ran really well, I can't complain about that. We had a little problem right from the start when the ignition box went bad. We fell back, but we had worked our way back up pretty good. That's not the way we wanted to start 2000, but there are a lot of races left and these guys have a never-say-die attitude, so you have to take the good with the bad."
WHAT DID YOU SEE WHEN THE ACCIDENT STARTED? "All I saw was smoke. The 77 car either lost something, a tire, or somebody got into him because he turned sideways and it was on from there."
SCOTT PRUETT --97-- McDonald's Taurus
HOW DID YOUR FIRST COMPLETE OFFICIAL STOCK CAR RACE FEEL? "Good. We had a little problem with the car, it was a little tight on the first stint, but I just don't think we had enough horsepower for them today. The Cosworth guys, it's a new venture for them, so we're all learning. We're gonna continue to make it better and better and see what we can get."
WHAT DID COMPLETING THESE LAPS DO FOR YOU? "Just to be heads up and know what's going on. A couple of times it was pretty close. When that car flipped on the front straight we had to do some pretty serious maneuvering and then when a car crashed off of turn to we had to do the same thing. But, otherwise, we got a race under our belt and had some pit stop practice, so there you go."
WILL YOU BE MORE COMFORTABLE FOR TOMORROW'S RACE HAVING EXPERIENCED THIS TODAY? WILL YOU SLEEP EASIER? "A little easier. By having one race under my belt I have an idea of what to expect, so with that, be able to take it and be a little bit better in the 500."
