MARTIN TO MAKE 2005 BUSCH DEBUT IN FONTANA
Mark Martin and Pat Tryson to team up on No. 9 Pennzoil Platinum Ultimate Protection Ford
CONCORD, N.C. (Feb. 23, 2005) * Mark Martin will make his 2005 Busch series debut this weekend in the Stater Bros 300 at California Speedway. Martin will team with his Nextel Cup crew chief Pat Trsyon on the No. 9 car this season, which will feature an all new Platinum paint scheme that will showcase Pennzoil's Platinum Ultimate Protection synthetic oil line.
This will be the first career start in a Busch race at Fontana for Martin, who will be looking for his record extending 46th win in the series. Martin made his return to the series a year ago, running in five races, while collecting four top-10 and one top-five finish.
This year he will team with Tryson, who helped rejuvenate his Nextel Cup career in 2004 and hopes will be high, as he and Tryson are scheduled in to run in eight Busch events in 2005. Matt Kenseth will drive the No. 9 Pennzoil car in two other events.
"I'm looking forward to working with Pat and some of the guys from the Viagra® Team this year on the Busch car," said Martin. "We think this will give us a lot more continuity as a team and hopefully we'll be taking Pennzoil victory lane and add to that win total."
Martin heads into Fontana on a roll, having won the IROC race last Friday in Daytona and finishing sixth in the Daytona 500.
"We've had some good results so far this year," added Martin. "Hopefully we'll be able to keep that going and be competitive in both the Busch and Cup race this weekend at Fontana. We've had that track figured out lately. We had a great test there last month and we had a really good run there last fall, so I'm exited about getting back on the track."
Martin and the No. 9 Pennzoil Team will return to action again in two weeks at Las Vegas.
