Going Back to Cali -- For the second time this year, the NBS heads to the shores of California to compete in the 27th race of the year. In the February race here, McMurray started 15th in the No. 64 RWI Racing Dodge and drove to a seventh-place finish. After last weekends eighth place finish at Bristol, the team is looking forward to posting another top-10 finish with Jeremy behind the wheel.
In the Hunt for the Chase -- Mayfield may run a limited schedule in the Busch Series, which puts him deep in the driver's standings, but he currently sits sixth in the NEXTEL Cup Series point standings. After winning in his Cup car at Michigan two weeks ago, the 36-year old series veteran sits 427 points behind leader Tony Stewart. With only three races remaining in the hunt for the Chase; these next couple of weeks will be critical for Jeremy and his NEXTEL Cup team.
Crew Chief Update -- Steve Darne will continue to fill in as interim crew chief on the No. 64 Miller High Life Light Dodge. Last weekend, Darne coached McMurray and his TopFlite Dodge to an eighth-place finish in the Food City 250. Car owner, Rusty Wallace is taking his time in finding a replacement for former crew chief, Blake Bainbridge and feels that Darne is more than capable of leading his team to another successful finish this weekend in California.
Two Lap Lucy is Back -- Steve Darne and his MHLL team will take Chassis No. 12 to the track this weekend in California. This car was appropriately nicknamed "Two Lap Lucy" when she hit the track for the first time at the Charlotte test and on the first day of the test, after making only two laps on the track, McMurray went sailing into the outside wall and destroyed the car. The car was rebuilt and taken to IRP, where she posted a tenth-place finish with Mike Wallace behind the wheel.
Who's Next? -- Jamie McMurray will fill the seat of the No. 64 TopFlite Dodge next weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Mayfield will return to the seat of the Miller High Life Light Dodge on Sept. 24th for the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway.
Mayfield on running a limited schedule in the NBS--
"I like running the Grand National races, especially at the tracks where it helps to have the extra time on the track. But it can be hectic running back and forth between the two garages, especially now that I'm so concentrated on the Chase. But RWI Racing has been good to me and I'm looking forward to these last few races with the team."
Steve Darne on taking over the position of crew chief for RWI Racing--
"Right now everything is going good. We went to Bristol and had a good top-10 run and that's what we're working on right now. Just being consistent and trying to keep things around here running smoothly. I'm really proud of these guys, they're doing a great job and I'm looking forward to California with Jeremy."
