Corona, CA -- NASCAR Busch Series frequent race entry Bruce Bechtel of Corona, CA is returning to his backyard track, California Speedway to run the Slater Brothers 300 presented by Gatorade race, Saturday, May 1.
Bechtel, a Corona electrical contractor, is no stranger to the NASCAR Busch Series and California Speedway. In 2003, Bechtel entered four NASCAR Busch Series races (Las Vegas, Texas, California Speedway, and Phoenix) with a best finish of 24th at Las Vegas. And in 2002, Bechtel again started four Busch races (California Speedway, Pikes Peak, Atlanta and Phoenix) with his best finish 26th at California Speedway. Bechtel has run more than 1500 laps and over 90 hours at the 2-mile D-shaped oval as a driving instructor for a driving school the past five years.
Bechtel will be teaming up with North Carolina-based NASCAR Busch and Truck team, Ware Racing Enterprises for the California Speedway race. Team owner, Rick Ware is excited about Bechtel joining the two-car team and stated Bechtel is slated to drive the No. 57 Lucas Oil Products Ware Racing Enterprises Monte Carlo. Racing with the NASCAR Busch Series will be the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Grand National Division, West Series'.
Although this is Bechtel's first start for Ware Racing Enterprises, Rick Ware is looking to have Bechtel fill the seat for other races this year in the NASCAR Busch Series. Bechtel has been a frequent team driver for the Jimmy Mean's NASCAR Busch Series team the past couple years.
Bechtel and Ware Racing were elated that Lucas Oil Products joined their growing motorsport program as the corporate office for Lucas Oil Products is located in Bechtel's hometown, Corona, CA. Lucas Oil Products, Inc. founded by Forrest Lucas and his wife Charlotte in 1989 with the philosophy of producing only the best line of lubricants and additives available anywhere. Lucas has established itself as a top-selling additive line the American truck stop industry and is one of the fastest growing additive line in the consumer automotive industry including a premium line of oils, greases and problem solving additives. Lucas Oil Products also produces a line of heavy duty products for industrial and agricultural markets. Lucas' involvement in the racing industry led to production of a line of high performance engine and gear oils.

Bechtel expects to keep pace with the 43-car field and finish a respectable top-20 for Lucas Oil Products and Ware Racing.
"This weekend's race at California Speedway is stop number nine of 34 races for 2004 NASCAR Busch Series schedule. Also the first race of two set for California Speedway in 2004 and the only two races the NASCAR Busch Series run in California. California Speedway, not only a racer's favorite each year is very popular with fans statewide. The sizeable grandstands hold over 92,000 excited fans plus 1,800 infield RV spaces, selling out early for each race.
NASCAR Busch Series qualifying airs Friday, April 30 at 1:30 PM PST on SPEED Channel and the 150-lap NASCAR Busch Series race is televised Saturday, May 1 on FOX at 1 PM PST.
