Joliet Ill -- Christian Elder, driving the No. 38 Ford was airlifted to a local hospital after wrecking his car during his qualifying lap. Elder was in turn three on the 1.5 mile track when his car hit the outside wall.

After being checked out at the nearby St. James Hospital, Edler was diagnosed with a concussion and broken right clavicle. He will be kept overnight for observation. CT scans on his head and neck came back negative. Elder recently returned to the No. 38 following surgery on a herniated cervical disc in his neck.

Shortly after Edler's wreck, Dan Pardus, driving the No. 32, also wrecked his car hard into the outside retaining wall. Pardus escaped the battered machine which broke out in flames after the hit, unhurt.
