Earnhardt Jr. wants win at 'home' track

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 9, 1998) Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is ready to go to a track he knows well. The NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Myrtle Beach 250 will be held at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday. Earnhardt, Jr. won his first race there driving a late model stock car in 1995.

Having run on only three short tracks this year, Earnhardt, Jr. is looking forward to going to a track where he has more seat time than a lot of his competitors. Last year, Earnhardt, Jr. drove the No. 31 car at Myrtle Beach Speedway, when he started seventh and finished 14th.

"I want to come to Myrtle Beach (Speedway) and lap the field," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Seriously. I'm really excited to be coming back to race here with the Busch car. This is the only track where I've put in as many laps as this team. I've been running here since 1995. I got my first career victory here in '95 driving a Late Model Stock car. It would be great to win in our Busch car."

In his 17th race of the season at The Milwaukee Mile, Earnhardt, Jr. started second and took over the lead on lap 7 and held it until lap 54. He took over the lead again on lap 109, and would lead the rest of the field to the checkered flag.

Earnhardt, Jr. has continued to stay in the top five in the NASCAR Busch Series point standings. He is currently ranked third, only 52 points behind leader Matt Kenseth.
