Dale Earnhardt Jr. returned to the Busch Series for only the third time this season, his first event as his own car owner, and grabbed the pole for Friday night's 250 mile dash under the lights at Richmond International Raceway.

Earnhardt drove his No. 8 Chevy around the .750-mile track in a time of 21.282 seconds,a speed of 126.868 mph, a new track record.

Roush Racing's Greg Biffle will start his No. 60 Ford alongside the No. 8 on row one. Points leader Biffle charged hard to grab the Bud Pole but fell short while his fastest lap topped the 126.399 mph mark.

Brewco Motorsports' Kevin Lepage will start fourth followed by Darlington winner Jeff Burton. Biffle's main competitor in the points battle, ppc's Jason Keller, closes out the top five.

54 cars attempted to make the 43-car field, leaving a long list of disappointment as 11 teams failed to make the final cut.

Jeff Green, Casey Mears, Stacy Compton, Kerry Earnhardt and Shane Hmiel round out the top 10.
