SHANE HMIEL in the no. 47 Mike's Hard Lemonade Chevrolet was the Raybestos® Rookie of the Race at Dover.
"That's about three weeks in a row that we've run really well and we finally got a good finish out of it. It makes the team feel good. Innovative Motorsports got both cars in the top-10. Kenny (Wallace, his teammate) had a battery going dead or he probably would have finished better. We knocked a lug nut off on the last stop and that hurt us a little bit in the pits but other than that it was a perfect day for us. We had a really good time. Mike's Hard Lemonade come on board for the rest of the year and it's really turned our team around. We're working together like a team. It's been a lot of fun this last couple of weeks. We've run in the top-10 competitively the last three weeks and that's exciting."
YOU ALMOST CAUGHT YOUR TEAMMATE AT THE END OF THE RACE FOR POSITION.
"That's Kenny Wallace, he's a Winston Cup driver and it's hard to race or beat him. To run right behind him doesn't bother me a bit. It's exciting. We raced hard today. It was a long day, 200 laps here man feels like forever. It's a lot of fun."
HOW DEMANDING IS RACING AT DOVER?
"I think it would be worse if my car was loose. I was a little tight all day so I didn't have to do many movements with the wheel. It's just so hard to breathe around here."
BRIAN VICKERS, NO. 40 EMP DODGE FINISHED 13TH .
"With how things have been treating us here lately I can't complain about it. We had a heck of a car. We got back to like seventh or eighth and we ran the leaders down from half a track and were right on them getting ready to pass them. We were by far the fastest car on the track and I was real proud of the guys all this past weekend getting the car real quick. We got up there and unfortunately we lost 10 or so spots in the pits. The car was setup to run up front in clean air and when I got back there it got real tight on me, aero tight. We adjusted for it. We came in and lost some more spots in the pits the next time but we adjusted the car to run in the back of the pack and behind all those other cars and got it better and worked our way back up to 13th. It's not the day I wanted with the car we had but at the same time I can't complain how things have been going lately. I'm still proud of these new guys we've got in here and I'm proud of our run today."
SELECTED HMIEL POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
"There weren't too many downs. We started 14th and finished 10th. We knocked a lug nut off on the last pit stop and dropped us back to like 14th or so and we got back to 10th. It was a good day for the Mike's Hard Lemonade Chevrolet. I really like Dover. We should have finished in the top-10 the first race here but we blew up with about 20 to go. It's a cool track for me and I enjoy it."
DID THE TRACK OR WEATHER CHANGE DURING THE RACE?
"My car was pretty much the same all day. It was a little tight, not terribly tight, and we just couldn't get that worked out of it. We finished 10th and who can be mad at 10th? I can't with the summer I've had. Both IMI cars are in the top-10 and we're going to have three IMI cars at Kansas next week so that will be exciting."
KERRY EARNHARDT, NO. 12 SUPERCUTS CHEVROLET. EARNHARDT WAS SIDELINED BY AN ACCIDENT AND WAS CREDITED WITH A 39TH PLACE FINISH.
"The Supercuts Chevrolet Monte Carlo was running real good and we were passing everybody. Everyone that I got to gave me room. I got to the 36 car (Hank Parker Jr.) and he raced me pretty hard. I thought he was going to give me a line but it turned out that he wanted it too. I think he got a little loose and there wasn't anywhere to go. We ended up in the wall. I hate that it ended that way. We were having a good day."
