Menard To Start From the Seventh Row In Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series Dover 200
DOVER, Del. (Friday, Sept. 23, 2005) -- Paul Menard and the #11 Menards/Pittsburgh Paints Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., will start Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series Dover 200 from the inside of the seventh row after qualifying this afternoon on the Monster Mile oval here.
Menard turned a fast lap of 153.452 mph (23.460 seconds) to earn the 13th spot on the grid for Saturday's 200-lap main event. That's the same spot Menard, the 25-year-old out of Eau Claire, Wis., started at the last Busch series event two weekends ago on the three-quarter-mile tri-oval at Richmond, where he went on to lead 66 laps and battled Nextel Cup Series regular Kevin Harvick to the checkered flag for his first career Busch series runner-up finish. Menard is currently riding a streak of 12 top-12 finishes in his last 13 outings, a run that includes top-fives at Kentucky and Gateway, a top-three at Milwaukee, and the runner-up finish at Richmond.
Race time Saturday is 1 p.m. EDT with a live broadcast set for the TNT cable network. Nextel Cup regular Ryan Newman will start from the pole with defending series champion and current points leader Martin Truex, Jr., alongside him on the front row.
"I'm really looking forward to tomorrow because we worked and worked in practice yesterday and got ourselves a really good race car. We were loose on the qualifying run and still we ended up with not too bad a starting spot. I think we'll be in really good shape for the race."
