"We were just a little bit loose out there getting into the corner on the first lap. I think the first lap was going to count the most. We just got too loose on the first lap trying to back the corner, and it was better the second lap and went the exact same speed. I don't know what happened to our speed. We sure did fall off and everybody else didn't."
YOU'VE HAD TWO EARLY QUALIFYING DRAWS AT BOTH DOVER RACES THIS YEAR. HAS THE HURT YOUR QUALIFYING EFFORTS HERE? "You never know. You can go out early and there could be a cloud and you'd be good. It's just the luck of the draw there."
GREG BIFFLE-60-Grainger Ford Taurus (Qualified 8th)
"I thought that was a (22 seconds) flat. I couldn't believe it. I barley lifted and I couldn't do that in practice, so I thought we were faster."
HAS THE TRACK CHANGED SINCE THIS MORNING? "It might be a little different. That felt pretty close to the same as what I felt earlier; the speed just wasn't there. I wasn't on the throttle quite a long time, but the speed just wasn't there."
IS THE SOFTER TIRE COMPOUND GIVING THE CAR MORE GRIP IN THE CORNERS? "I think so. I think it's a good change. I think it will show up in the race mostly."
HOW WILL TIRE WEAR AFFECT RACE STRATEGIES TOMORROW? "It will be about the same, but the tire will just wear more. Before, taking them off, they weren't even worn, so now it will be just normal tire wear, what you see at most tracks."
DID THE TWO-HOUR WINSTON CUP PRACTICE HELP YOUR BUSCH QUALIFYING RUN TODAY? "Maybe a little bit. It just got me more laps, and kinda got me ready for those two laps in the Busch car."
JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Qualified 5th)
"It wasn't too bad. It wasn't a perfect lap, but it wasn't a real bad lap. Any more, when you don't get a perfect lap, you're not going to sit on the pole or even the front row. For us, we really picked up our program at Dover. We really struggled in the spring. All indications are that it's going to be a little bit better weekend."
WITH YOU SITUATION IN THE POINTS RACE AND WITH ONLY EIGHT RACES REMAINING IN THE SEASON, DO YOU PUT MORE EMPHASIS ON QUALIFYING? "I put emphasis on all my qualifying. I try to take them all serious. Starting up front is going to mean a whole lot. We just need to focus on what we can do."
IS THE SOFTER TIRE COMPOUND HELPING YOU GET A FEEL FOR THIS TRACK AGAIN? "It's real good. My car is a lot better than it was in the spring. Maybe the tire has helped me and hurt some of these other guys."
WILL TIRE WEAR BECOME AN ISSUE HERE TOMORROW"? "I don't think it will change the strategies from before. I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe it will. We only ran 37 laps on a set, so I really don't know, but I don't foresee any real tire wear."
BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 10th)
YOU MADE SIGNIFICANT GAINS FROM PRACTICE THIS MORNING. "Well, what it was, we made race runs all morning long. We put stickers on and me and the 23 bumped sides on pit road. We had the same idea at the same time and bumped. We had to stop and repair all the damage and didn't get a chance to make a sticker run. We would have been better on the sheet this morning. All we did was put stickers on it and tape it up and ran in the top 10."
YOU'VE HAD RECENT SUCCESS HERE. IS THE NEW TIRE CHANGING ANYTHING FOR YOU THIS WEEKEND? "The tire is just so fast here. You're half a second quicker on stickers than you normally ever are. The tires are different, but Robert Yates has found some more horsepower. You can tell it. It's a combination of everything."
