SPARTANBURG, SC (September 16, 2003) -- When Yellow Racing driver David Stremme climbed behind the wheel for the first Dover race of the season on May 26th, it was his fifth time driving the No. 1 car. Little did he know that the race would be a short one for him, and the "Making Friends Tour 2003" would be underway for the Rookie of the Year contender.
At the May Dover race, Stremme was involved in an on-track incident with driver Kasey Kahne on lap 146 that ended Stremme's day. A few weeks later, when David Stremme had the official "Yellow Racing Making Friends Tour 2003" t-shirts produced, Kahne playfully donned one for the NBC television cameras.
"You have to be able to have fun in this sport," driver David Stremme said. "The t-shirts are a good way to lighten the mood, and most of the drivers have really taken to them. It's something fun and different that Yellow Racing fans can even get involved with themselves."
Fans can buy their own "Yellow Racing Making Friends Tour 2003" t-shirts at the trackside souvenir trailer or on-line at www.yellowracinggear.com. The shirts won't last long, so Stremme encourages fans to order soon.
"While it's OK to have fun off the track, I have learned a lot on the track this season," Stremme reports. "One of the important things I have discovered is that you have to race each track as much as you race the other drivers. When you are at a track like The Monster Mile, you really have to concentrate. Dover is different than any other track. It's one of the few concrete tracks that we race on; Dover is very bumpy and that's hard to get used to. You have to really pay attention to see if there is something wrong with the car or if it's just the track itself. I am really looking forward to getting more seat time and definitely improving the finish for Team Yellow from last time."
The Stacker 200 at Dover International Speedway will be held on Saturday, September 20. The race will air live on TNT and be broadcast on MRN beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Qualifying for the event will take place Friday, September 19 at 1:10 p.m. EDT and will be aired on the Speed Channel.
