Winn-Dixie, PepsiCo to sponsor summer Busch Series race at Daytona.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (June 6, 2003) -- Daytona International Speedway officials today announced a multiyear agreement for the 250-mile NASCAR Busch Series race on Pepsi 400 weekend at the "World Center of Racing." In 2003, Winn-Dixie and PepsiCo will jointly sponsor the race, known as "The Winn-Dixie 250 Presented by PepsiCo," to be held under the lights on Friday, July 4 at 8 p.m.
"We are pleased and excited that Winn-Dixie and PepsiCo have teamed together as sponsors of one of the most exciting nighttime NASCAR Busch Series races of the season," said Speedway President Robin Braig. "Winn-Dixie joins Daytona International Speedway's team of strong corporate sponsors and we look forward to working with them and PepsiCo on future growth opportunities."
Winn-Dixie is building from its previous relationship with the Daytona International Speedway, as promotional partner of The Daytona 500 NASCAR event for the past three years. In order to share in the celebration of this new relationship with race fans and customers, Winn-Dixie is selling tickets to the race at select stores for a discounted price when customers use their Customer Reward Card.
"Winn-Dixie and PepsiCo are proud to partner together to bring the Winn-Dixie 250 race to the fans," said Frank Lazaran, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. President / CEO. "By offering our customers a chance to purchase discounted tickets at Winn-Dixie with their Customer Reward Card, we can make the event truly a real deal."
PepsiCo's major brand families include Frito-Lay, Pepsi-Cola, Gatorade, Tropicana and Quaker. Pepsi-Cola has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Daytona International Speedway dating back to 1959, and Gatorade recently expanded their long time partnership with Daytona International Speedway with naming rights to "Gatorade Victory Lane," making it the first time Victory Lane has been branded at this level.
Last year, for the first time, the Busch Series made a second stop at the "World Center of Racing" with the 250-mile race under the lights.
This year's Winn-Dixie 250 Presented By PepsiCo will feature Busch Series drivers such as Randy LaJoie, Scott Riggs and Ron Hornaday along with several Winston Cup stars including defending Winn-Dixie 250 Presented By PepsiCo champion Joe Nemechek, 2003 Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip and restrictor-plate ace Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Tickets for the Winn-Dixie 250 Presented By PepsiCo and the 45th running of the Pepsi 400 are available online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling the Speedway ticket office at 1-800-PITSHOP.
