MIAMI (Oct. 9, 2000) -- David Green, who sat on the pole for last year's inaugural Pennzoil 400, is among the drivers scheduled to test their NASCAR Busch Grand National Series machines on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Green established the official NASCAR Winston Cup Series track record with a lap of 34.669 seconds (155.759 mph) on the challenging 1.5-mile circuit. It was the first Winston Cup pole for Green, who was a late-season replacement for Tim Beverley's 10-10-345 Pontiac.
"In my case, winning the Bud Pole at Homestead-Miami Speedway was pretty darn big," Green said. "It was special, because I was just changing rides to the No. 45 car. But the fact that it was the first NASCAR Winston Cup race at Miami made it pretty big."
Green will be testing the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet fielded by Cicci-Welliver Racing. He is currently ranked eighth in the Busch Series point standings.
Among the other drivers expected to be in attendance will be Kyle Petty, Elton Sawyer, David Green, Curtis Markham, Jason Leffler, Mike Stefanik, Jason Keller and Hank Parker Jr. The test session is closed to the public.
Green hopes the test session can be a springboard to another pole position at Homestead-Miami Speedway -- this time in the Nov. 11 Miami 300.
"Winning the pole position last year really gives me a lot of extra confidence,'' Green said. "To me, Homestead-Miami Speedway has been a very special place over the years, and I really hope to put the No. 34 car on the front row."
