ANDRETTI TAKES ON THE "LADY IN BLACK"
Andretti is familiar with the front row at Darlington Raceway; he captured his first NASCAR pole at the "lady in black" in 1995. In 19 starts on the South Carolina track, Andretti picked up his Darlington stripes long ago and plans to use that experience to bring home a top-10 finish for the FreedomRoads team.
Andretti will carry local FreedomRoads Dealer, Holiday Kamper, on the #10 Friday night.
The FreedomRoads team is taking chassis #18 to Darlington. It's the same car the team raced in Bristol where Andretti brought home a ninth place finish.
Andretti is currently tied for second in the Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year point standings, twenty points behind leader, Burney Lamar.
No stranger to Darlington, Andretti has 19 Nextel Cup starts at Darlington Raceway. Andretti finished in the top-10 four times and completed 83.4% of all the laps possible, leading 42 laps. Andretti's average start on the Darlington 1.366-mile oval is 21.5 and his average finish is 22.3.
ANDRETTI AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY
Friday night's running of the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 will be Andretti's first start at Darlington Raceway in the Busch Series, but he has 19 Nextel Cup starts on the South Carolina 1.366-mile oval.
JOHN ANDRETTI ON THE DIAMOND HILL PLYWOOD 200 AND DARLINGTON
"Darlington is where I got my first Nextel Cup pole. I love Darlington! The first time I went there I thought I made a big mistake coming to stock cars because it's such a different kind of race track. If they built a racetrack like Darlington today people would bad mouth it but all the racers would love it. This will be my first Busch race there and I'm looking forward to that. I've qualified and run good at Darlington and last year my teammate Kenny Wallace ran second and had a really fast car. As far as the ppc Racing organization goes, maybe Kenny and I can battle it out for the win!"
