WAS THE ACCIDENT A CASE OF NOS. 2 AND 5 CARS NOT HAVING ENOUGH ROOM TO RACE? "It's not that there's not enough room, everybody was doing good but Ron Hornaday. That's it in a nutshell. He wouldn't let the 5 go, and the 5 had a run on him two or three times down the frontstretch. The 5 kind of got into him because he ran the 5 down on the apron and brake-checked him right in the middle of the corner and wrecked us all. That just takes zero class to do that, to brake-check a guy right in the middle of the corner and wreck us all. I hope NASCAR does something about it. That's just ridiculous."
CAN YOU REPAIR THE CAR AND GET BACK ON THE TRACK? "We're done. It slammed me against the belts and I jerked my neck up; I wasn't expecting it. I just hope they do something. I hope they penalize him or park him for the last race of the season because stuff like that can't be tolerated. We're all professional and that's not even close to being a race car driver, that kind of stuff on the race track. I don't understand it."
MIKE MCLAUGHLIN-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Finished 39th)
WHAT HAPPENED? "I haven't seen the replay so I can't honestly say. Somebody got into the back of me, and once I was turned into the wall I was along for the ride at that point. I was a little bit tight in the center and I might have lost a little speed, but I had a good run off of the corner to where I never thought I would be turned around. I didn't see it, so I don't know what happened, but I was definitely in the throttle there. It's just a shame because it's two weeks in a row that I've tore up some race cars and that's not much fun."
MATT KENSETH-9-Pennzoil Ford Taurus (Finished 5th)
YOU CAME HOME WITH A FIFTH-PLACE FINISH DESPITE SOME DAMAGE TO THE NOSE FO THE CAR. "That was that debris that I think came from when the 25 wrecked; it just fell right in the middle of the straightaway. We didn't really have a great car, but the guys did a great job on pit road. The Pennzoil team did good, so it was a fun race to be a part of. It was cool to see Martin win his first championship in an old Earnhardt car; that was pretty awesome. It was a fun day at Darlington."
STACY COMPTON-59-Kingsford/Bush's Beans Ford Taurus (Finished 20th)
"We just weren't very good today. I don't know where we're missing it. I'm pretty disappointed because we always run good here. We didn't run very good today and we need to do a little homework over the winter because we haven't quite figured it out yet, but we certainly need to."
DID THE LACK OF PRACTICE YESTERDAY MAKE IT TOUGH ON THE BUSCH REGULARS TODAY? "I don't know. It didn't look like it affected some guys. Obviously, some of the guys that got a little more practice than we did ran better. It may have affected it, but it's hard to say."
ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED TO SEE DARLINGTON LOSING ONE OF ITS RACE WEEKENDS NEXT YEAR? "I am. I've always liked this place. This is the roots of racing. We got rid of the smaller tracks. We got rid of a lot of the places that we like running on and it takes a little bit of the fun out of it. A lot of the guys like to race on what they grew up racing on, and I think it makes a great show for the fans. We don't see them that much more anymore."
JASON KELLER-22-Miller High Life Ford Taurus (Finished 16th)
"I wish we had an excuse, but we just weren't very good. We tried to adjust the car there during the race, but we just could never get it. We were always either real tight or real loose, nothing in between."
HAVE THE SAFER BARRIERS TAKEN AWAY SOME OF THE RACING GROOVE? "It's definitely a smaller groove than it was. It was always small, but now it's even smaller."
ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED TO SEE DARLINGTON LOSING ONE OF ITS RACE WEEKENDS NEXT YEAR? "Yeah, because I still want to get my first win here, and I just hope that I get that opportunity even with just one race here next season."
ROBERT PRESSLEY-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Finished 13th)
"I love this race track. I've always run good here and have a couple of Busch wins and two second-place finishes in the truck. We ran most of the day in the top 10, but right there at the end got a bad vibration with about 15 laps to go, and we just had to ride it out. The way our year has been we had to get something positive out of it."
HAVE THE SAFER BARRIERS TAKEN AWAY SOME OF THE RACING GROOVE? "The line is a little bit different and I had to keep searching around on the race track. One and two really haven't changed that much for me, but three and four where I used to have, what I thought if I ever had an advantage, is all gone because they took it every bit away from you."
ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED TO SEE DARLINGTON LOSING ONE OF ITS RACE WEEKENDS NEXT YEAR? "I'll tell you what, this is one of those race tracks that everybody loves it when you run good and everybody hates it when they run bad. It's one of those places like that, but I wish we could come here three or four times if we could get our act together."
