THE CLOUD COVER DIDN'T SEEM TO HELP YOU TODAY.

"It didn't seem like it covered the turns. I knew it was slick, but it was way loose for us. The heat makes it slick, and all four tires should slide the same, but for some reason we were way too loose and that's it."

DO YOU THINK THIS CAR WILL RACE WELL?

"I hope so, but I thought I was going to qualify well today, too."

WILL THE HEAT BE TOUGHER ON THE DRIVERS OR THE EQUIPMENT COME TOMORROW?

"Both. The car is going to fall off even more so than when it's cooler, and the drivers are going to have to pace themselves, too."

JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Qualified 24th)

WAS THE CONTACT WITH THE WALL JUST A CASE OF BEING TOO LOOSE?

"I drove into the corner fine, I guess I was just trying to get too greedy. I tried to go for it and it wasn't there. I guess it was just a case of being too greedy."

THERE WAS AN UNUSUALLY HIGH NUMBER OF CARS THAT MADE CONTACT WITH THEW WALL DURING QUALIFYING. IS THE HEAT IMPACTING THE TRACK SURFACE THAT MUCH?

"No. It wold be easy to blame that, but a lot of other cars didn't hit the wall. I was going for it; I really wanted to do good here. I just hope I didn't bend it too bad so we don't have to unload the back-up car. If we don't have to, we'll be OK."

KASEY KAHNE-38-Great Clips Ford Taurus (Qualified 3rd)

"I think we had a little bit more than that. The motor was surging through the corner, so I was on it and then not on it. It was a good run for the Great Clips car. I got into the wall in practice, so they already fixed mine. The back was sliding around just a little bit. We got our car a little bit better from practice. I ran a lot harder there than when we ran or .40 in practice. The motor was surging. As it was surging when I was wide open, it was killing our speed. We should have run a lot faster than that."

WILL THE HEAT BE TOUGHER ON THE DRIVERS OR THE EQUIPMENT TOMORROW?

"This will probably be the hottest race of the year because we haven't had a whole lot of real hot ones. You feel it as a driver, but it will be hot on these race cars here, too."

BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 10th)

"I know we can't run what we ran this morning because of the heat, but I think we could have been a little better. We stuck some left-rear spring in it trying to get it some help off; we were a little bit free off. We were great in one and two, but three and four, we just couldn't get in the gas. I think that's a lot of the problem. Some of the guys that hit it right qualified good and it's kind of the same old deal if you haven't been on it for a couple of hours, you kinda lose track of the race track, and as you can see, the Cup guys knew what to do. The good thing about it, it's a great race car. It may not be a good qualifying car, but we just missed a little bit."

HOW TOUGH IS IT TO FIND GRIP ON THE RACE TRACK IN THIS HEAT?

"First of all, when you're a little off here, you multiple that by two compared to other race tracks. The heat is probably going multiply by it by three. There's just no grip here, but the patches that they have added really help the place a lot. The places where you struggle to make passes, they kinda help. The heat is going to hurt the overall stuff, but they kind of helped this place with the black strips. It's kinda a 30-50 deal; you gained a little bit but you lose a little bit because of the heat."
