Darlington, SC. March 14, 2003 Happy Hour Quote Chris Bingham said "The day started out on a positive note, we ran a few laps to shake out the car and warm all the fluids and see what we had since qualifying was called off" After 10 or so laps we ran a 31.6. The motor had so much horsepower, that the gear they were running was too high for the RPM's. (Keep in mind they tested here a week before and ran a low 30. with the old motor in qualifying trim.) "After the gear change, the car was much better and we were turning in decent laps on old tires. I was feeling comfortable in the car." Jay called Chris in. The decision was made to put on sticker tires, he was on pace to run a high 29 to low 30 based on segment times. " I was running the same line I used during the test. I drove it in deep, but she broke loose and we earned our Darlington stripe on the passenger side. The team went to work on the #49 Tim Hayes Racing Ford Taurus, fixing her up good as new. I am so proud of our guys. They really came through. Unfortunately, we did not to get in any more happy hour practice, but we will adjust the set up and be ready to go on Saturday. The Yates power will make a huge difference and we will have a competitive car."
Darlington, SC. March 15, 2003 Race Day Quote " It's too bad the weather has continued to plague the Busch Series. We were having a fun day hanging with Tim (Hayes) and were all set to go racing and then the heavens opened up. Now we will have to wait until Monday. Tim said he wouldn't miss rooting us on Monday. He will be back to handle the pit board duties for us.
Our race game plan is to run off sequence by pitting early. We will run a few laps, and then change tires, and make any necessary adjustments. Should we have more rain, we will be in a position to take advantage of it. We are planning a good run with a decent finish in order to provide all the publicity we can for the Tim Hayes Foundation."
