Stars to Fill both the Sky and the Starting Field For May 28 CARQUEST Auto Parts 300
CONCORD, N.C. (April 29, 2005) - More than the sky will be filled with stars during the inaugural nighttime running of the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 Saturday, May 28, at Lowe's Motor Speedway as at least 15 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers are expected to vie for starting spots in the NASCAR Busch Series event.
"We're seeing more and more NEXTEL Cup drivers competing in the Busch Series races and it's tremendous for the fans," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "Tickets for our CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 start at just $17 and with all these NEXTEL Cup guys battling the Busch Series regulars, sparks are sure to fly."
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point leader and two-time Coca-Cola 600 winner Jimmie Johnson is scheduled to make a rare Busch Series appearance in the 300-mile classic, driving the No. 48 Chevrolet fielded by Hendrick Motorsports and sponsored by Lowe's and Kobalt Tools.
He will be joined by Ryan Newman, who plans to make his first NASCAR Busch Series start since 2001 in the new No. 39 Dodge fielded by Penske Racing, and 2002 NEXTEL Cup champion Tony Stewart, driving the No. 33 Chevrolet owned by Kevin Harvick, Inc.
Even though he leads the NASCAR Busch Series point standings, Carl Edwards is counted among the NEXTEL Cup invaders as he runs all the races in both series and it will be Jeremy Mayfield's turn to drive Rusty Wallace's No. 64 Miller High Life Dodge.
Other Cup Series drivers expected to attempt to make the starting field for the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 include: Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Scott Riggs, Dave Blaney, Kasy Kahne, Sterling Marlin, Greg Biffle, Joe Nemechek, Elliott Sadler and Michael Waltrip.
Tickets for the May 28 CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 start at just $17 and include the final NASCAR NEXTEL Cup practice sessions prior the May 29 Coca-Cola 600. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
