AMBROSE EIGHTH IN PRACTICE AT CHICAGOLAND

Marcos Ambrose has made a strong start to the USG Durock 300 by finishing final practice with the eighth fastest time at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois today.

The Australian improved the set-up of the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion over the course of the day and is confident ahead of tomorrow's 200-lap event.

Ambrose was 26th fastest in opening practice before finishing rookie practice in sixth and scoring a credible eighth fastest in the final session of the day.

Ambrose was the fastest rookie in final practice, the next best Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender David Ragain down in 24th position. Ragan currently leads the rookie standings ahead of Ambrose and Juan Pablo Montoya.

The USG Durock 300 will be held tomorrow, with qualifying and the race both staged on the same day.

"I'm really encouraged," said Ambrose. "We were hoping and praying that we were going to come here and run decent. We think our 1.5-mile program is the best we have right now.

"We've had a couple tough weeks and we're looking to bounce back from that. If practice is any indication we're climbing on it. We had a really good session, just working through some of the stuff on the car.

"It's a unique one-and-a-half mile track because it's not straight. It's all bends the whole way round. As a team I think we gelled well and made a lot of this session, especially the second practice, we made a lot of that and I'm really pleased."

"We're working as a group to just get our cars consistent, the same every week, week in and week out. We're not far away from that but we're really just trying to make everything the same week to week. And that way we know what we've got."
