McMuray looks for more career highs at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
LYNN HAVEN, FL (May 20, 2003) -- Jamie McMurray will return to the driver's seat of the #1 Yellow Dodge this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway after a three-week hiatus from the Busch Series. Not only does he find the Busch car second in owners points, he finds himself second in laps led in the series this season with a total of 192.
Lowe's Motor Speedway is very important to McMurray. Seven months ago, in racing's version of a Cinderella story, McMurray was picked to drive a Winston Cup car for the injured Sterling Marlin. In only his second start, he had his first career victory. "That day was the highlight of my career," McMurray recalls. "I will never forget my first win, it changed my life."
The 1.5 mile Lowe's Motor Speedway is known for its competitive and unpredictable races. McMurray's fiery spirit and drive will be an advantage for him at this track where mental stamina is just as important as physical stamina. McMurray also knows what it feels like to win here, and he wants to share that with Team Yellow.
"It is really great being part of such a successful team," McMurray said. "I enjoy racing in the Busch Series, this team is very competitive and I like to win. I know with this team that is a real possibility every time I get on the track. I really like racing at Lowe's Motor Speedway, I have won here before and I would certainly like to do so again this weekend. Hopefully we will put the Yellow Transportation Dodge in Victory Lane on Saturday."
Be sure to watch Team Yellow continue their run for the championship and McMurray try for his second Busch win this season in this week's CarQuest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The race will be aired live on FX and broadcast live on MRN beginning at 1:00 ET on Saturday, May 24, 2003. Qualifying for the event will take place Friday, May 23 at 1:30 pm ET and will be aired on Speedchannel.
