Smith Turns in Top-5 Finish in Charlotte Busch Race

CONCORD, N.C. (May 27, 2007) -- Regan Smith crossed the finish line fifth in Saturday night's Busch Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway, scoring his second top-five and fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Smith, who piloted a special No. 4 U.S. Army Chevrolet in honor of Memorial Day weekend, was the highest finishing Busch Series regular in the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 and beat 19 Cup drivers to the checkered flag. He moved up two spots to sixth in the driver point standings.

"What a great night," said Smith. "The Army Chevy was super -- it was pretty loose at the beginning of the race and Doug (Randolph, crew chief) did a good job calming me down and getting me focused. He and the team made great calls on the right changes and we were able to turn in a top-five finish. A strong result for our soldiers on a special weekend."

Smith, who shares driving duties with Mark Martin in the 01 Army Nextel Cup car, also had a motivating voice in his ear throughout the 200-lap, 300-mile event.

"Mark was on the radio with me tonight and I really appreciated the coaching and encouragement," continued Smith. "A lot of people tore up their cars tonight and we were able to stay smooth, stay focused and grab an awesome finish."

"This is a great team and I'm so proud of how well we're running," added Smith. "I see a lot of positive things in our future-- hopefully we can get our No. 4 Chevy to victory lane soon."
