"It was a long and hot afternoon. We made two pit stops before we got to halfway. Man, 600 miles around here has got to be a monster. I've never been here before. I've got to give it to the guys because they really carried me this weekend. They were patient with me. Harold (Holly, crew chief) let me make changes that I wanted to make and every time I did we went slower. So we ended up going right back to where we were off the truck. It was a good run for all the guys on the Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus, the ppc renegades.
DID YOU HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING FRESH AIR INTO THE CAR?
"Well, I had a small air conditioner but it didn't feel like it. It was awful hot. The seat got awful hot. This was as hot as it's been all year. We'll do a little something different and be a little cool next time."
DID THE TRACK STAY CONSISTENT ALL DAY?
"Consistently slick. Everybody was fighting a tight condition because you were carrying so much speed into the corners and the car is tight. You drive it in on the front end so it makes it tight. We kept on freeing it up all day and had a great car. I didn't have quite enough for those guys in front of us, especially (Greg) Biffle with the fresh tires there at the end. To come away with a third place finish the first time here, we'll take it and go to Dover next week."
CASEY MEARS, No. 66 Phillips 66 Dodge, finished 23rd:
"I really think we had a good car. I did make some mistakes today; showed my rookie stripes a little bit. Going into the weekend I wasn't real sure because we weren't real good in 'Happy Hour.' I got really hot today. My cool box went out. I didn't have any air coming in all day and got really hot. What happened in the crash out of turn four, I was at the bottom and tried to clear the crash and Hornaday came down and caught me. That pretty much put us in the back from there."
DAN PARDUS, No. 32 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet, finished 25th:
"We had a good racecar there towards the end. We got in two altercations today. We came in and fixed it after the first one and the crew just made the thing better. It was unbelievable. They knocked the left front fender in and fixed the toe problem and made the car a lot better. We got the car handling better toward the end of the race. If we hadn't got down a lap we felt like we would have been able to finish maybe in the top-20 here today. We just got two new racecars and this was one of them. We're building slowly but surely."
