DAN PARDUS, ...
DAN PARDUS, #32 OUTDOOE CHANNEL CHEVROLET:
"We got caught up in lap traffic. That 49 car (Joe Buford) got between me and the cars that had been running together and he picked the pace up and looked like he was going to run good there for a few laps. I think he got a little unsure of himself down there in one and got down on the bottom and got a little loose and jammed the brake pedal on and started to go high. I went low to go underneath him and when I did he turned back down and came back across me. I hit him in the left and turned him around. I hate it for the Outdoor Channel. I feel like we had a good race car here today and was hoping to be there at the end and have another good run here at Charlotte but it ended early. We'll got to Memphis and hopefully have a better day there."
JOHNNY SAUTER, #2 ACDELCO CHEVROLET:
"I just got loose. Randy (LaJoie) was on the outside of me and just got the air off me. It was my fault. I got loose and hit him and we both spun and wrecked."
CAN YOU GET THE CAR BACK IN THE RACE?
"I think so. It doesn't matter, though; we're a million laps down."
SCOTT RIGGS, #10 NESTLE NESQUIK FORD:
"The biggest thing that happened was that my foot slide off the brake pedal getting into the pits. I slide through my pits and that's what cost me. Then after that, it was just a snowball effect. I had a left rear lug nut loose and had to come back in again. And then back there in the back, halfway through the race, back in the back with all these guys. They want to get to the front and they're awful desperate. That's how it is when you are in the back. Things like that are going to happen. We didn't need to be back there in the first place. It was my fault for relegating the team back there and I take this one on the chin. It's my fault."
SHANE HMIEL IN THE #47 MIKE'S HARD LEMONADE CHEVROLET WAS THE RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT CHARLOTTE. HMIEL FINISHED 10TH, HIS SEVENTH TOP-10 OF THE 2002 SEASON. HMIEL TOOK TOP RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE HONORS FOR THE SIXTH TIME THIS SEASON AND THE SECOND TIME IN THE LAST THREE RACES. HE HAS NOW SCORED TWO TOP-10 FINISHES IN THE LAST THREE RACES.
"Anytime you start 34th and finish in the top-10, that's an achievement. My hat's off to the guys. They have really turned this race team around. We had a tough, tough, summer but we're turning it on at the end of the year. We're ran in the top-10, top-15 for the last month. We'll be something to fight with next year, that's for sure."
YOUR TEAM GOT THE CAR BETTER AND BETTER DURING THE WEEKEND.
"That was the crew. They got the car better. We knew we were good in race trim but qualifying trim was a little tough here for me. I just don't have the experience here in qualifying trim that I need. Next year my crew chief has already said that we're going to come here and test. It feels good to be back up here running with the people that we're supposed to be instead of running 20th and 25th every week."
DID YOU HAVE ANY CLOSE CALLS DURING THE RACE?
"Yeah, there was a bunch. There were times when we were way too far back in the back and got caught up and let some people get by us on a restart. My crew chief just kept me calm and kept me from running into the back of people and tearing up my fenders. We come out with a top-10 and I can't be any happier."
SELECTED HMILE POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
"It was a really good day. The weekend kind of started off bad qualifying 34th, which is unlike us. To finish tenth from 34th is a big deal for us because we had to pass most of those cars on the racetrack and not in the pits. It was a long day but it was a good day for us. We picked up a little bit in the points. We're hurting in the points anyway but we're going to try and finish in the top-15 and we're getting there. We're probably only 70 or 80 out now. The last month has been really good for us. We haven't run out of the top-10. We haven't finished in the top-10 every time, but we're run in the top-10. I'm looking forward to the rest of the five races."
YOU'VE SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH YOU FATHER HERE AT LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A GOOD FINISH HERE?
"I watch all these cars go around here and I can't believe I do that. It just trips me out. I've been coming here since I was little and I've raced legends, I've raced go karts, every track here, road courses, all that. I remember I used to sit in turns three and four and watch the guys drive in the corners and I can't believe I do that now. It's really cool."
"I wanted to add something to that. I think it's great that the Winston Cup guys ride with us, race with us. People are like 'You'd have finished blah blah if it wasn't for the Winston Cup guys.' Who cares? If you want to be successful in this business you have to race with them one day. I'd rather start now than when I'm 30. I didn't get to say that while they were in here. I really like racing with the Cup guys. I wish they all would race with us. It doesn't matter to me. They all can buy the same parts that we can buy. I just wanted to add that."
