#43 Aaron Fike Ready For Challenge Of Lowe's Motor Speedway
- Ollie's Bargain Outlet Team and 21-Year-Old Open Wheel/Busch Series Star Bouncing Back From Kansas -
CORNELIUS, NC (October 12, 2004) -- Aaron Fike and the #43 Ollie's Bargain Outlet Curb-Agajanian Dodge team have regrouped after a tough weekend at Kansas Speedway to challenge the "Lowe's Presents The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300" at Lowe's Motor Speedway this Friday night, October 15. This is Aaron's ninth Busch Series start and his first Busch race on the 1.5-mile Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"We showed the competition at Kansas that we can run up front," said Aaron, who tested well at Lowe's this past September. "We're going to continue to run up there. The guys have been busting their tails to get the car ready for this week and I plan on making them proud."
Within 18 laps at Kansas Speedway, Aaron was up to 12th place from his 22nd starting spot and moving up steadily. Unfortunately, debris on the track rendered the brakes on the #43 Ollie's Bargain Outlet Dodge inoperative. Aaron soon was caught up in the melee on lap 81, which was set off when Tim Fedewa spun in front of Kyle Busch. Not able to stop, the #43 was damaged beyond repair.
"Aaron did a great job last weekend," said #43 crew chief Joe Shear. "If that incident didn't happen, he would've been a top-10 car based on his lap times. Competition is going to be tough at Lowe's, but I know he can handle it."
About Aaron Fike
A two-time National Midget Driver of the Year, Aaron's racing resume reads like a veteran's. Like NASCAR Nextel Cup stars Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne, Fike started his professional racing career in open wheel cars. In 2001, Aaron broke Jeff Gordon's record and became the youngest driver ever to win in a Silver Crown Series race. Aaron has limited experienced in full-bodied stock car competition, having driven in eight 2004 NASCAR Busch Series races and two 2003 ARCA events. His best finish was a 17th place in September's Busch Series race at Dover International Speedway
