Team Marines Racing Notes & Quotes:
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on Charlotte:
"Charlotte is a really a fun track to race on. It's fast and produces a lot of side by side racing which is not only exciting for the drivers but for the fans as well. On the flip side, Charlotte is also a very moody track. It's similar to Atlanta and Texas, but it is super sensitive to the weather. Weather conditions really determine what the track will be like. The temperature can drop two degrees and the track will feel completely different. That kind of sensitivity can have a big impact, especially on qualifying, so you really have to pay attention to it there more than at any other track.
I have had some great runs in Charlotte, my best being a 7th place finish there last year in October. I plan on beating that this time around by about six positions. We tested there a couple of weeks ago, tried out a brand new car and posted some of the fastest lap times so I know we have the car to do it."
Fred Wanke on Charlotte:
"I have to go with Bobby on this one. This is the most temperamental track on the circuit when it comes to weather. It changes so much from morning to afternoon that you almost need two different cars there. You practice in the morning and use one set-up and then you turn around and have to use a completely different set-up for the race. So really, you are constantly chasing the changes to racetrack. During the race, you'll make adjustments on just about every pit stop in accordance with the weather and temperature, even when you're leading the race."
Equipment & Testing:
Hamilton, Jr. will be driving a brand new Team Marines Ford Taurus this week. The team put the new car through some practice laps at Lowe's Motor Speedway two weeks ago during the open test session working on race set-up and getting Bobby comfortable with the new car. Through both days of testing, Hamilton, Jr. was one of the fastest on the speed charts.
