Washington Mutual To Sponsor #43 CAPG Dodge At California Speedway NASCAR Busch Series Event
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Friday, Aug. 25, 2006) -- Curb Agajanian Performance Group announced today that Washington Mutual will sponsor the #43 CAPG Dodge to be driven by P.J. Jones at the Sept. 2 NASCAR Busch Series Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway.
'We are extremely excited to have Washington Mutual on board with us for one of the more high-profile events on the NASCAR calendar," said CAPG principal Cary Agajanian. "They are one of the fastest-growing companies in the nation and are recognized as being true innovators in the modern-day banking industry. We are looking forward to donning their familiar blue and gold colors in some pretty fast company at California Speedway."
Washington Mutual is one of the nation's leading retailers of financial services for consumers and small businesses. As of June 30, Washington Mutual and its subsidiaries had assets of $350.70 billion. The Seattle-based company has a history dating back to 1889 and currently operates more than 2,600 consumer and small business banking stores throughout the nation.
"Washington Mutual is excited to be participating in one of the nation's most popular spectator sports," said Jeff Richardson, Vice President, Group Sales, for Washington Mutual. "NASCAR fans are a great match for Washington Mutual and we hope to see our #43 car cross the finish line first."
As part of the weekend's sponsorship effort, Washington Mutual is conducting a promotion in which two lucky fans will have the opportunity to win $10,000 if Jones wins Saturday's race. Additional prizes include 15 sessions at the Richard Petty Driving Experience, as well as garage and pit passes for six lucky fans for the California Speedway NASCAR weekend. Fans can enter the sweepstakes at the Washington Mutual display during next week's Ontario Fan Fest (www.ontariofanfest.com), run in conjunction with the NASCAR event, where Jones and his father, Indy Car legend Parnelli Jones, will be taking part in an autograph session on Thursday, Aug. 31. Fan Fest hours are from 4-10 p.m. that day.
Jones, longtime open-wheel and NASCAR driving veteran, will be making his third Busch series start of the season behind the wheel of the #43 CAPG Dodge. During his two previous NBS events this season, he brought home the team's top 2006 finish of 13th at Daytona in July. In May, he piloted the Curb Agajanian Indy Car entry to a 19th-place finish at the Indianapolis 500.
"All the elements in place for a solid weekend on and off the track," Jones said. "Racing in my old, Southern California stomping grounds with a new, powerful sponsor in Washington Mutual is a definite asset for our entire program. We hope to bring everybody a really good finish."
Also sponsoring the #43 CAPG Dodge at Fontana is Scottsdale, Ariz.-based real estate developer Diversified Partners (www.diversified-partners.com), which also sponsored Jones' CAPG entry at the Indy 500, and Ventura, Calif.-based premium soil products company Agromin.
Practice for the Ameriquest 300 begins Friday, Sept. 1, on the 2-mile oval at California Speedway. Race time Saturday, Sept. 2., is 10 p.m. EDT with a live broadcast on the TNT cable network.
