DARLINGTON, S.C. (Sept. 2, 1998) Nathan Buttke will again fill in for Jeff Purvis as driver of the Lance Snacks Chevrolet in Saturday's Dura Lube 200 presented by Bi-Lo at Darlington Raceway. Buttke has subbed for Purvis in the last two NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division events, recording a 22nd-place finish at Michigan and a ninth-place showing two weeks ago at Bristol.
The race will be Buttke's last race with the Lance team before Purvis returns next week at Richmond.
"I am just happy to have had the opportunity to drive for James Finch and for Lance," Buttke said. "We've had two solid runs and hopefully we can have another good run at Darlington this weekend. It's hard for a team to get its chemistry down when working with a new driver but I feel like we all meshed pretty well."
Buttke did not run at Darlington in the March race but did record finishes of 20th and 21st in last year's events.
"The first time I drove at Darlington I was 17 years old," Buttke said. "It was tough then and it is tough now. Still, I like to race at Darlington. It is definitely a driver's track. I've had some good runs there in the past; I just haven't finished as high as I would have liked. Hopefully I can get that turned around with the Lance team."
Buttke's plans are uncertain after the race at Darlington but he does hope to keep on racing in the NASCAR Busch Series.
"I would love to run the rest of the Busch races if something comes available," he said. "But my main focus after this weekend is to get a solid plan together for next season. I really want to run the full Busch schedule in '99."
