Buckshot Jones Chases A Win At Bristol Motor Speedway
SPARTANBURG, S.C.--- There is always one race track that a driver feels compelled to conquer. For some it's a superspeedway like Daytona, but for Buckshot Jones it is the most exciting short track on the circuit. . . Bristol Motor Speedway.
"A win at Bristol would be an exciting moment for me," said Buckshot Jones, driver of the No. 00 Bayer Aspirin / Alka-Seltzer Pontiac. "We have come so close to winning the past two years that I am even more determined to make it happen."
Throughout the last two seasons, Jones has led more than 80 laps at Bristol Motor Speedway and claimed the outside pole at the NASCAR Busch Series race in March.
"This is a track that you either love or hate," commented Jones. "It's an exciting race, but you have to be extremely focused. There's not a lot of room to pass unless you're running up front and you always have to contend with lapped traffic. It's tough on a driver both mentally and physically."
Patience is the key to success at Bristol Motor Speedway and over the last two seasons, Jones has learned from his mistakes.
"My team always gives me a good setup for these races, so it's up to me to stay patient and cross the finish line first," said Jones.
"I think it's great that we get to come to this track twice during the season," continued Jones. "It's a thrilling race for the teams and the fans love it too. The track has added more seating over the last year, so it can easily accommodate the fans. It's a first class facility."
Jones has one victory in 1998 and has been successful at many tracks throughout the year notching four top-five and six top-ten finishes. He seems to have found the secret to running well at Bristol Motor Speedway, but he is still chasing one goal at the half-mile oval . . . the checkered flag. # # #
