YOU APPEARED TO HAVE A GOOD SECOND LAP GOING UNTIL THE CAR SLIPPED IN TURNS THREE AND FOUR. HOW MUCH DID THAT SLIP HURT YOUR LAP TIME? "It hurt a lot. I got into one and two just flat that last time. I got it down in there and was able to hold it down the whole way. It probably would have been a 15-flat. I qualified 15-flat here in the spring, and that was one of those laps where it just got away from me down there. I messed with the throttle the whole way around the first lap, and the second lap, I got down in there flat."

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF FAST CARS THAT DREW AN EARLY QUALIFYING NUMBER TODAY. DOES THAT NEGATE ANY DISADVANTAGE? "When I sat on the pole here in the spring I went out second, but that will probably end up eighth or so. It'll be in the top 10, so it will be a good starting spot."

CARL EDWARDS-03-MAC Tools Ford Taurus (Qualified 14th)

"The team has never raced this car and we had a couple of little problems in practice so we didn't get all the laps we wanted. I feel we'll be all right and we're going to work on it in Happy Hour. I think the car is great and we're going to be good when it comes time to race."

WHERE DID THEY GET THIS CAR? "It's a car they got from ppc Racing. It's a great Ford; it runs really well. It turns out that it's the same car Jon Wood drove for ppc in Homestead last year. Cowboy (Kevin Starland) has been crew chief on this same car twice with two different drivers. He's kind of helping us out today."

HOW MUCH DID LAST NIGHT'S RACE HELP MAKE UP FOR THE LACK OF PRACTICE THIS MORNING? "It helps out a lot, but I think most of that will show in the race. Right now, everybody is really going all out to make fast laps, and once the race gets going we'll be a little better than we look right now."

DO YOU HAVE ANY FEARS THAT FATIGUE MIGHT BE AN ISSUE AS THE WEEKEND PROGRESSES? "I'll be all right. I'm going to sleep a lot tonight and then I'll get plenty of rest on Friday night. I don't think it will be that much of an issue."

MIKE MCLAUGHLIN-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 10th)

"It's not bad. I'm happy. You always want to do betters, but we started out on the bottom of the sheet and worked our way up all day. I hope by race time, I'm sure by race time Harold Holly will have this thing operating."

YOUR ONLY RACING EXPERIENCE THIS YEAR HAS BEEN A SUBSTITUTE ROLE FOR GREG BIFFLE AND THE 60 TEAM. IS THIS A HIGHER PRESSURE SITUATION? "Actually, the other deal was more relaxed. That deal there, I just looked for a decent balance and that seems to be pretty close for Greg. That's kind of a less pressure situation, where here, you have to get after it right away."

WHEN DID THE DEAL TO DRIVE THIS CAR THIS WEEKEND COME TOGETHER? "Yesterday at about two o'clock. Katie and I were at a restaurant having a late lunch and they called. I actually didn't anticipate racing this year at all. Sam and Harold called, and Harold said, 'Come on in, the water is good.' So here I am. We just want to run up front all night tomorrow and see if we can be a factor at the end."

JASON KELLER-22-Airplus Insoles Ford Taurus (Qualified 23rd)

"We've missed it all day long. We made some big changes right there and the car isn't responding like we need it to. I wish we could say that we could make some more changes in Happy Hour, but I'm not so sure where we have to go from here."

HAS THE TRACK SURFACE CHANGED SINCE THE SPRING RACE? "No, we weren't that good here in the spring. We were just able to stay out of the fray at the end in the spring race. We've missed here it on this new tire, but I don't know where it is. You usually fight a little loose condition in qualifying. We're usually right at the top of the sheet, and right here lately we're not threatening."

ROBERT PRESSLEY-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Qualified 21st)

"We were a lot better in practice than that, but we'll take it with the way that we've been going. We were worried about being a little bit loose, but ended up being a tick tight. This tire has been something and it's really great on this surface. I think we can fine-tune in Happy Hour and have something to really compete tomorrow night."
