"That wasn't a bad two-lap run. It should get us in the top 15, so we don't have to worry about pitting on the backstretch. It's just a little bit tight. I wanted to get back in the gas sooner, but didn't overdrive it down in the corner, which is good. It just didn't quite turn like I needed it to. We've been really loose in and we had to change a few things to get it tightened up and it cost us a little bit around the middle and exiting. But, it wasn't a bad lap."
DO YOU HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE RAGGED EDGE TO GET THE POLE HERE? "Mainly just getting in. You have really have to be careful getting into the corner; it's really loose getting in a lot of times."
WITH ALL OF THE BUMPING AND BANGING THAT TAKES PLACE HERE DURING THE RACE, HOW HARD IS IT TO KEEP YOUR COMPOSURE? "We're really just focused on what we need to do here. We wanted to get a decent starting spot and don't want to make errors in the pits, keep track position all night and try to keep the 57 in our sights."
DID THE DELAYED START TO QUALIFYING HELP YOU TODAY? "I guess you could look at it that way. I don't think it will get much cooler between now and the time qualifying ends, but sure, the sun has really gone down from this afternoon."
JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Qualified 1st)
WAS THAT A PERFECT QUALIFYING RUN TODAY? "It's so really hard to tell what's fast here. It felt really free and on the edge, and luckily for us, I was able to get enough throttle down. That's as fast as I want to go around here today. Somebody could beat it, but I'd hate to have to be sitting on pit road right now thinking that I had to beat it, so I'm glad I had to go early."
HOW MUCH OF THE RACE IS WON BY STARTING UP FRONT? "It's a lot of luck, but we really wanted to focus on qualifying and get a good pit stall. Who knows? The race track is cooling down a little bit which is going to scare me a little bit late in this run, but hopefully it stands up and gets up close to the front on this pit stall. It's critical here to have a good pit stall for pit stops, so hopefully we did that."
QUALIFYING STARTED MORE THAN HOURS AFTER IT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED. WITH YOUR EARLY DRAW, DID THE REVISED SCHEDULE BENEFIT THE DRIVERS WITH EARLY DRAWS? "I don't know. It's the luck of the draw, and just unfortunate what happened today, but luckily everybody is OK, so we can't worry about that."
SCOTT RIGGS-10-Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus (Qualified 2nd)
"It was pretty good for us. It will probably hold up, and I think we will be second quick. I wanted to get a pole again. We had a pole here in the spring and I wanted to get another pole. Our first lap was our fastest and that put us second. I thought I got through (Turns) 1 and 2 better on my second lap, but I just couldn't get it all together. We'll be happy with it."
DID YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAD A SHOT AT THE POLE? "I thought that we had a shot at the pole, I really did because the times were so close and we really never got a fair shake at our qualifying practice in practice. I know I had a shot at it. I just didn't get quite enough like we needed to this time."
WHY DO YOU RUN SO WELL HERE? "I don't know. I've got a good car. It doesn't matter where we go, when we've got a good car and the team is on and we're on and we're dialing things in to get faster every time we out go, it's a great weekend. I hope it winds up being a great weekend here. Last time we were here in the spring, we had a good car and ran in the top five there all day and led a little bit, sat on the pole and led a little bit, but the last 15 laps we had flat tire, so we'll see if we can keep air in these tires this time and finish this thing out."
HOW CLOSE TO THE EDGE DO YOU HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR IN QUALIFYING HERE? "I felt like I overdrove the car getting into the corner in practice, so that was something I kept thinking about when I was out here getting ready to qualify. I said the way to beat these guys is that you have to beat them by getting on the gas early and not drive it in hard. So, that's all I did, I just didn't drive it in quite as hard and tried to pick up the gas earlier."
YOU HAD THE POLE HERE IN THE SPRING, BUT YOUR TEAMMATE BEAT YOU TODAY. "Looking at where he's going to start and where I'm going to start, I guess I helped him a little too much."
BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 26th)
"We did our normal deal. All we did was worry about the race; that's what we did. We didn't worry about qualifying and hopefully we'll be on the front straightaway."
WITH THE TWO PIT LANES, YOU WEREN'T WORRIED ABOUT QUALIFYING HERE? "It's always a chance, but we're trying to win races and get up in points. It's a double-edged sword and it depend s on how lucky you feel."
MARK GREEN-38-Deka Batteries Ford Taurus (Qualified 23rd)
"It was pretty good. We came here and tested a few weeks ago and the track had a lot more grip. We had a really good car, we thought. We came back, and I don't know the reason, but maybe the races last night really slicked up the race track. We changed a lot of stuff and we're still not where we need to be. That was about what we thought we could run going off of what we did in practice. We'll start over in Happy Hour and make it better."
THIS IS A DIFFERENT CAR FROM THE ONE YOU RAN HERE IN THE SPRING. "We ran this one at Nashville, the last Nashville race, but other than that, it's a new car. We got to test it out here, but I don't think it's the car, the track has changed so much. Two weeks ago it was totally different."
KASEY KAHNE-98-Channellock Ford Taurus (Qualified 42nd)
WHAT HAPPENED TO CAUSE YOU TO SPIN? "We got real lucky. We haven't been any good since we taped up. With no tape on, we actually had a really good race car, but taped up, we haven't been any good, and right there we were just really loose and spun out and was happy that I didn't get in the wall."
THIS IS THE FIRST TRACK THAT YOU'VE REVISITED IN A STOCK CAR. WAS THERE A GREATER LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE COMING INTO THE WEEKEND? "Yeah, I'm definitely more comfortable. The Channellock car is better than it was last time. Everybody is doing a good job, but when we were practiced qualifying runs, we were 30th in qualifying runs; we haven't been any good."
