Notes & Quotes
Testing,Testing... The Phillips 66 team spent two days testing at Bristol Motor Speedway last week. The team brought a Chevrolet and Dodge to the test. Mears first made laps in the Chevrolet to get a feel for the track before jumping into the Dodge.
Casey Mears' Thoughts On Bristol... "It's an impressive place, just like everyone talks about. The track itself reminds me of the half-mile track back in Bakersfield (California)- Mesa Marin Raceway. Bristol definitely has more banking than Mesa Marin, but they are shaped similarly. So when I when out on the track for the first-time at Bristol I didn't feel completely out of place."
Crew Chief Donnie Richeson's Thoughts On Racing At Bristol... "When you go to Bristol you can toss the aerodynamics package out the window. Bristol is all about springs, shocks and sway bars. For a crew chief, Bristol is fun because it relies upon your basic knowledge of the chassis that you've grown up with."
The Equipment... "Gambler" is the car the Phillips 66 team will compete with this weekend in Bristol. After making the change to Dodge during the off-season, "Gambler" is the only chassis the team elected to keep from last year's inventory. Saturday's Channellock 250 will mark the 2002 debut for "Gambler". "Gambler's" last start came at Darlington in September 2001.
Open-Wheel Ties...Casey Mears is one of three drivers entered in Saturday's Channellock 250 with winning ties to the Indianapolis 500. In addition to Mears, Larry Foyt and Christian Fittipaldi are also entered in this weekend's race at Bristol. Between the three of them, members of their families have combined to win the Indianapolis 500 10 times.
Now Appearing... Casey Mears will be attending the Food City Family Race Night on Thursday, March 21 at the Kingsport Convention Center. Mears will be sign autographs from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
