Skip Barber trained Todd Bodine benefited from four new tires to overcome the defending NASCAR Busch Series champion and win the NBS ALLTEL 200 Saturday at North Carolina Speedway. The native New Yorker set the pace for most of the race, leading 145 of the 197 laps on Rockingham's 1.0 mile oval.

Bodine had to secure the point late from last year's champion, who held the lead on a restart with less than 10 laps remaining, then opted to remain on the track without pitting during the race’s final caution with about 15 laps to go. On the strength of new tires, Bodine roared from sixth position on the restart to pass the leader just one lap later.

In Indy Racing Northern Light Series news, Skip Barber alumnus Sam Hornish Jr. got his first taste of success in the IRL this weekend during the second of a two-day test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Hornish tripped the quickest time of Saturday's session with a 0:27.186 sec. (198.629mph) circuit of the 1.5-mile South Florida oval, duplicating the feat he pulled off Friday when he posted the only 200 mph lap of the test.
