Greg Biffle earned the pole for the Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Biffle's lap of 183.542 mph bested second place Kyle Busch by almost a full mile-per-hour, Busch ran only a 182.599 mph. Biffle was surprised at the effort of the No. 60 Ford team.
Biffle's lap was nearly three-tenths quickest than his fastest time in Busch Happy Hour, "It was a great lap for our Ford. It was a little bit tight. We were concerned with what the weather would do, this place changes so fast."
Kyle Busch grabbed his third consecutive front row starting position with the outside pole. "It was going to be really tough to beat his lap," Busch commented. "Hopefully we can do it on race day, that's the only day that counts really."
Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick and Joe Nemechek complete the top five starters. Cup star Tony Stewart, piloting the No. 29 RCR/Kevin Harvick Chevy lines up sixth.
Series standings leader, Martin Truex, Jr., will take the green flag from seventh.
Many drivers experienced difficulties navigating around 1.5-mile speedway. In morning practice, Michael Waltrip wrecked his primary car, and during time-trial efforts Hermie Sadler, JJ Yeley and Kevin LePage all met similar fates.
