Returning to Atlanta Motor Speedway is something that Buckshot Jones looks forward to each year. The track and the entire state of Georgia hold not only many memories, but also many milestones in his racing career.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is the hometown track for NASCAR Busch Series driver Buckshot Jones. "One of my favorite races of the year is Atlanta," said Jones. "We have such a hectic schedule, it's great to have the chance to spend some time with my family and race at one of my favorite tracks."

Tucker, Ga., is the town where Buckshot grew up and attended high school. Jones was involved in several different sports in high school including football and boxing. Jones' wife Jina is also from the Atlanta area and they have known each other since grade school.

Lanier Raceway is where Buckshot got his racing career started in 1990 competing in the All-American Division. After competing at Lanier, he moved on to the NASCAR Slim-Jim All-Pro Series and several other late model divisions. He scored his first victory in his home state in 1994 at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Ga.

He attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in Business Management. Jones got his racing career started in the state of Georgia while pursuing his degree. When he entered college, he asked his father if he could race motor cross. Billy Jones, owner of Buckshot Racing, told his son if he wanted to race he had to finish college with a B average and he had to race stock cars.

"I knew my dad was right by making me stay in school," said Jones. " I look back on it now and it was the best thing I could have done. I went to classes during the week, but come Friday I was in my car driving to Lanier for the race that weekend."

Buckshot's NASCAR Winston Cup debut was at Atlanta Motor Speedway in November of 1997. "This track really holds a lot of milestones for me as a driver and this entire team," said Jones. "As a team we seem to have found the right combination to run strong there. Coming back to Atlanta and making my first career Winston Cup race made the accomplishment so memorable."

Two top-five finishes in the NASCAR Busch Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1997 and 1998. He qualified 7th in March of 1999 and 11th in November of 1999 for the Winston Cup races at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Away from the track, Buckshot enjoys coming home to the family farm in Monticello, Ga., to hunt and fish. "If I'm not in a race car on the weekend, you can be sure that I'm at our farm," said Jones. "I spend as much time as I can there during the season getting it ready for hunting season and then I spend most of November and December down there hunting. Everyone in our family comes there during the holidays and I use it as a place to just get away and relax."
