Litchfield, Maine -- Any other driver would be anxiously waiting and hoping for the phone to ring if they were in Andy Santerre's position -- four months until the start of the 1995 Busch Grand National North season and left without a ride -- but not the 1994 Busch Grand National North Most Popular Driver. He's taking matters into his own hands and is turning his set back into a success.

"The idea of fielding a competitive teamed seemed impossible at first," said Santerre. After all, the 26-year old had no financial backing, no equipment, and no car. But the phone began to ring. Slowly the idea that seemed so impossible became a reality.

"At first I was worried about not having enough time to prepare a competitive car, but the response I've received and the offers I've been made, have made it possible for this thing to come together," explained Santerre. And come together it has. Within one month Santerre has secured a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, two Buick V-6 engines, equipment, a shop to work in, and an experienced race team. Not an easy task for a third-year driver. But Santerre is not the kind of person to give up just because something doesn't come easy.

"I've worked for everything I've ever gotten," said Santerre. "I can remember when I first started racing, I didn't have enough money to buy a soda and candy bar at the corner store, but I made it to the track every weekend. I did what I had to do to get there." That determination and spirit still burn in Santerre's eyes.

"More than anything I want to win a Busch North Championship. It might not be this year, but you can bet I'll be in the running," said Santerre. And you can bet he will if his past two seasons are any indication. Santerre has the determination, the crew and the equipment to turn Andy Santerre Motorsports into a success.

Litchfield, Maine -- Andy Santerre has shown time and again, on and off the track, that sheer determination and the drive to succeed lay just below the surface of his good-natured personality and bright, ready smile.

In 1988 he was diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome (A virus that effects the central nervous system) and hospitalized for 87 days. Paralyzed and in intensive care, it would have been easy to give up and die rather than fight when his lungs collapsed and when his kidney's failed. But Santerre fought and won. He's been winning ever since.

In his first three years of racing, despite his lack of experience and financial backing, Santerre won over 15 races, a Super Sportsman Championship, and the prestigious ACT Rookie Race at Lee USA Speedway.

In 1992 his determination and perseverance paid off. He not only won five open pro-stock events, and six of seven pro-stock features he entered, he also signed on with O'Connor Racing and was given a chance to compete for a well a well- established, highly-experienced NASCAR Busch North Series team. He was up to the challenge.

He began his 1993 Rookie Year by setting two goals. One, to win the Penrose Challenge Rookie of the Year Award and two, to finish in the top 10 in points. By the end of his rookie season, Santerre had piled up seven top-10 and one top-five finish to place tenth overall in points and to grab the Penrose Challenge rookie of the Year Award.

With both of his previous season goals accomplished, Santerre looked to the 1994 BGNN season. His goals this year? To win his first Busch North race and to finish in the top five in points. Again success. Santerre posted his first Busch North Series win at Apple Valley in Williamson, NY and racked up nine top-10 and seven top-five finishes to place third overall in points. Again, both goals accomplished.

What will 1995 bring Andy Santerre? If history repeats itself, Santerre's determination and drive guarantee success.
