Mooresville, N.C. - May 8, 2002 - In order to strengthen their team for both the present and the future, Akins Motorsports and Great Clips are adding some 2002 races for Mark Green with an accelerated test schedule for Christian Elder.

Green and Elder will roughly split the remaining races on Akins Motorsports 2002 schedule in an effort to better prepare Elder and the team for a full 2003 Busch Series schedule, while seeking a sponsorship for a second team with Green for 2003.

"Christian is still the Great Clips driver," said Akins Motorsports General Manager, Doug Stringer. "Mark Green brings a veterans perspective to the team and Christian. We hope that by Mark running at some of the tracks where Christian has little or no experience, we can give Great Clips some added exposure and the team solid set up notes to take back next year with Christian."

"Mark and Christian have worked well together this year and we are seeking the proper funding to add a second team for Mark at Akins Motorsports for 2003."

"Christian will add a more aggressive test schedule for the rest of this year geared to speeding up his Busch Series learning curve."

Mark Green started running in the NASCAR Busch Series in 1995 and made his 150th start at Richmond Friday night. Elder ran his first Busch Series race in 2001 and has 22 starts in Busch Series competition.
