Team Yellow Hopes PJ Matches '99 Nazareth Finish :
PJ Jones captured his career best finish in CART with a second-place finish last year at Nazareth Speedway. "Nazareth is a very unique track," Jones described. "It was the first time I had been at the track and I was fortunate to adapt to it pretty quickly. We were running strong all day and ended runner-up to Juan Montoya. My crew chief (George Church) and I believe the key to Nazareth is focusing on being your best in two out of the three turns. Nazareth has a very distinct design - you shouldn't get carried away trying to excel in each area of the track. If you can excel in two of the three turns while holding your own in the third, I feel hopeful we can match that top-five finish in a stock car, too."
Church Continues to Build Each Element of Team:
When asked to offer a progress report on the team, crew chief, George Church commented: "We've definitely made a tremendous amount of progress on our cars. PJ and I feel pretty confident about what we're bringing to the racetrack each weekend, which results in solid, consistent starting positions. Now, we're offering greater time and attention to our pit stops. We just brought in a pit stop coordinator from a Winston Cup team and he's helping us perform better as a unit during our stops. I'm eager to see how we do on our pit stops this weekend. I expect to see an immediate improvement."
Weekend Off? Let's Go Off-Road Racing:
Some drivers may have taken a few days to relax in the air conditioning and enjoy the weekend off. Not PJ Jones. Jones took the days away from asphalt and headed to the desert of Baja, California. Jones tested an off-road Pro-Truck he plans to race in the "Baja 2000" in November. "We ran about a 30-mile section of the course for a systems check. I'll be teaming up with road racer Glen Harris and another driver to compete in the 2,000-mile event. I've never competed in the Baja, so this is going to be awesome."
