Steve Wallace and Team 5-Hour Energy Among Fast Five in Bristol; Teammate Brendan Gaughan Rounds Out Pair of Top-Ten Efforts for RWR
BRISTOL, TN (March 20, 2009)--Rusty Wallace Racing's Steve Wallace (No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet Impala SS) set the fifth-fastest time earlier this afternoon in the first of two practice sessions for Saturday's Scott's Turf Builder 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Wallace, the 2007 pole winner for this weekend's event, set his fastest lap with a speed of 122.248 MPH (15.696 seconds) on the 62nd of his 63 laps in the session. Noted Wallace, "I think we have a really solid 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet here this weekend. At the beginning of the session, we started off fighting a loose condition, but as it went on, we made some really positive changes and our car was definitely handling really, really well by the end. I'm stoked about getting it on here at Bristol tomorrow afternoon; there's nowhere else I'd rather race. We're ready to go."
Meanwhile, Wallace's RWR teammate, Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet), was also among the top-ten in first practice, posting the tenth fastest effort overall. Gaughan's best lap of 121.890 MPH (15.742 seconds) came on the 20th of his 72 laps in the session. Said Gaughan, "Our South Point Hotel & Casino Chevy was pretty good in the first practice. We still have a bit of work to do though; we had a slight loose condition off both corners and we didn't quite get it tightened up as much as I'd like. I'm confident in this team though; we'll get dialed in by the end of final practice and be ready to go and get our third top-ten of the year tomorrow afternoon."
