This Week in Ford Racing
March 17, 2010
As part of the partnership between Ford Driving Skills For Life (DSFL) and Colin Braun, the Ford Driving Skills For Life logo will appear on Braun's uniform and the No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway and for the remainder of the 2010 season. Braun is now in his second year as national spokesperson for Ford DSFL, promoting the importance of safe driving to teens around the country.
WHY DO YOU FEEL IT'S IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO BE INVOLVED WITH FORD DRIVING SKILLS FOR LIFE? "I think all the statistics show that car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teenagers and it is important to stop that. I really think that the Ford program is a really great project because it helps raise a lot of awareness and because it works. They are out there showing teens the importance of safe driving through hands on training events and through their website www.drivingskillsforlife.com where they offer training modules. If you look at the statistics that tracks the results of people that have gone through the program, it proves that it works."
WHAT HAVE YOU LEANRED PERSONALLY FROM THE PROGRAM? "I have learned a lot by attending the events and getting a chance to see all the different stages. For me, one of the most interesting things was realizing that a lot of people on the road aren't used to driving a car they way that I am. Growing up around cars, you assume that people are as experienced as you are and that isn't the case. I think it is a great opportunity for people to come to an event and see what this is like in a controlled environment."
YOU'RE A ROOKIE IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES THIS YEAR. ANY DIFFERENCE FROM BEING A ROOKIE IN THE TRUCK SERIES?" There is a huge difference. It is a little bit easier because I know a lot of the racetracks that we are going to, having been to them before in the truck series. As far as driving the car and who you are racing against, that is the same as the truck series."
