Sellers Delivers Solid Show in Atlanta
Hampton, GA: Peyton Sellers and the #77 SFP Chevrolet unloaded 28th fastest on Saturday for the Degree V12 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The rookie driver held on for the 195 laps to finish 28th for the night in front of an estimated crowd of 57,500.
The 1.5 mile quad oval track is known for its high speeds, but Saturday afternoon's conditions also produced a very tight field. Sellers' qualifying run of 169.5 mph was just .87 seconds off the pole.
It was Cardinal Motorsports' first time at AMS, and the team worked to make adjustments to the car during the race, cracking the top twenty briefly. There were only three cautions during the night, forcing Sellers to pit under green twice.
"We stayed out of trouble again tonight, and had a pretty solid run overall," said Sellers. "We were able to get a couple hundred laps of experience this weekend at a track we'd never been to before, which really helps us." Cardinal Motorsports is a new team in NASCAR's Nationwide Series this year, formed specifically around Sellers.
Sellers has a busy September planned with several personal appearances around the US on behalf of his sponsor, SFP. The team's next scheduled NASCAR Nationwide Series race will be at Kansas Speedway on October third. The track is located just outside SFP's headquarters in Leawood, Kansas. Sellers tested on the speedway in August in the ARCA RE/MAX series test there.
"We're really looking forward to Kansas. SFP has been a great partner this year, and we plan to put on a good show in their hometown," said Sellers.
