Baker Finishes 26th in Great Clips 300
ATLANTA, Ga. (SEPTEMBER 5, 2010) -- Running his first full race since the 2008 season, Brad Baker registered a respectable 26th-place finish in Saturday's Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Baker's finish helped the No. 27 team maintain their hold on 10th-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner Point Standings.
Baker started the race from the 27th position and battled a loose car early in the race. When the first caution of the race occurred on lap 42, the Tennessee native brought his No. 27 Ford Fusion down pit road where the Baker Curb Racing crew put on four fresh tires, made an air pressure adjustment and filled it with fuel.
As the race continued, Baker communicated to crew chief John Reese that the car continued to be loose. When the next caution occurred on lap 60, he brought his Ford Fusion down pit road for fuel only and returned to the track.
Baker was scored in 25th position when the race went back to green flag conditions on lap 65. As the race continued he communicated to Reese that the car was much better but got tight in traffic. After a caution occurred on lap 147, Baker brought his No. 27 down pit road for the final time. The Baker Curb Racing crew put four fresh tires on, filled it with fuel and returned him to the track scored in the 28th position.
The race went back to green flag conditions on lap 153. Over the final 42 laps Baker consistently improved his lap times and made his way past two more competitors on the way to the finish. The 26th-place finish marked his best in the Nationwide Series since 2007.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series will head to Richmond International Raceway on Friday for the Virginia 529 College Savings 250. Virginia native Hermie Sadler will be behind the wheel of the No. 27 VCU Athletics/CruiseOne Mustang.
