SPARTA, Kentucky - Jon Wood, fresh from his first Craftsman Truck Series win last week in Kansas, set a new lap record time while winning the pole for tomorrow night's 225-lap feature race. His lap of 31.832 seconds (169.641 mph) in his Jack Roush-entered Ford around the 1.5-mile oval at Kentucky Speedway easily eclipsed the previous record, set three years ago by Bryan Reffner (32.055 seconds, 168.460 mph.)

Joining Wood on the front row for tomorrow's race will be NASCAR veteran Bobby Hamilton, who also beat the old record. Hamilton, the early season points leader in the truck series (now third just 30 points behind leader Travis Kvapil,) is running a truck from his own shops.

Third, in another Hamilton Dodge, is Chad Chaffin, who was also able to beat the previous record.

Wood's Roush teammate, Carl Edwards was the fastest rookie in the field. He was fifth fastest, splitting the Ultra Motorsports Dodges of Jason Leffler and Ted Musgrave. Edwards just barely beat the clock to get on the track before qualifying ended, after a last-minute engine replacement was needed. The engine change will require Edwards to start from the back of the field.

Second in Truck series points, Brendan Gaughan will start seventh and points leader Kvapil will start from 14th place.
