After suffering the sting of falling out of the Chase for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship last week in Phoenix, rookie William Byron is showing the resiliency of a veteran.
Byron qualified on the pole for tonight’s season finale for the NCWTS for his third pole in 24 career starts. Byron finished with a fast time of 31.600 seconds (170.886 mph) and will be joined on the front row by Cole Custer.
“This is the truck we planned on bringing this weekend so everything was ready to go and we have a fast Toyota Tundra for this race,” Byron said. “We also looked at the owner’s points and we still have a chance there so we’re going to race as hard as we can for the win.”
Among the four drivers competing for the championship, two-time champion Matt Crafton was the highest Chase qualifier in fourth with Christopher Bell joining him in the top 10 in eighth.
Timothy Peters and Johnny Sauter are the final two qualifiers in the title hunt and they will start 13th and 19th, respectively.
