WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 18, 2000) - Like most NASCAR drivers, Mike Wallace is known for his prowess on oval tracks. Already winning on the super speedway at Daytona Beach and on the short bullring at Bakersfield, CA this season, Wallace will be going for the trifecta when he tries to win the Bully Hill Vineyards 150 on the Watkins Glen, NY road course this weekend. "We're taking the same road course truck to Watkins Glen we had there last year," said Wallace of his #2 Team ASE Ford, which finished second at 'The Glen' a year ago. "Overall, we were very pleased with our performance at Watkins Glen last year. We were beat by Ron Fellows who is a full time road racer. Taking that into consideration, we felt pretty good about the way we ran." Wallace and the rest of his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series mates have competed in one road course race this season, that coming in May at Portland OR. In that event, Wallace started the Team ASE Ford fourth and eventually finished in the same position. According to the St. Louis, MO driver, the tricky 2.45-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen layout is a much greater challenge than the Portland track. "Watkins Glen is a little different from the road course we ran at Portland in that it's considered a high-speed road course," said Wallace. "There's no real slow place to it. Watkins Glen is fairly high speed all the way around and for some reason that suits me. I'd have to say that if there were one road course where the Team ASE Ford F150 has a real good chance of winning, it would be Watkins Glen." The Bully Hill Vineyards 150 will consist of 62 laps (151.9-miles) when it takes the green flag at 1:30 P.M. Eastern Time Saturday, June 24. The 13th race of the 24-event 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season will be telecast live on ESPN. The race will also be broadcast by MRN radio.
