Lake Buena Vista, FL - January 16, 1998 -- Mike Bliss, Tony Raines, Brian Reffner, and Joe Nemechek were among the fastest in Friday's practice for the Chevy Truck Challege at Walt Disney World Speedway. The Chevy Truck Challenge is the 1998 series opener for the NASCAR trucks.

Andy Michner, in his first truck ride, said about WDW Speedway, "It's a tricky track. You have to get it hooked up. It's a driver's finesse track." Comparing USAC and IRL cars to trucks he commented, "The trucks are heavier, and it's harder to turn and stop."

Both Joe Nemechek and Brian Reffner were happy with the morning practice. Both were fast right off the truck. Jack Sprague said they were not as fast as they wanted to be; the team brought a different truck than the one used at the last test session. But he was quick to add, "We'll be all right."

Greg Biffle scraped the turn 3 wall. "We just got a little tight coming
out and scraped the wall. There's no real body damaged, we just collected
some white paint. We were really lucky."

In the afternoon practice, two drivers were not so lucky. Dominic Dobson made contact with the turn two wall. The truck had to be removed from the track on a rollback vehicle. Dobson was not injured in the accident. The team will attempt to qualify the backup truck on Saturday. When asked about what happened, Dobson replied "I wish I knew. I went into turn 2, it came around on me in the corner and I didn't catch it." Later he said, "I was having fun, until I hit the wall."

Jack Sprague also found turn two more than he could handle. "I got it backed in here in turn 2 and just couldn't get it out.'" (On Condition of Truck): "We have fixed worse, but I like the other truck better, so this is an excuse to get in it."

The trucks will have one more practice session on Saturday morning. Qualifying for the top 27 positions will start at 12:45 pm. The balance of the field will be made up from a last chance race to be run after the Silver Crown last chance race.

The Craftsmans Trucks 200 mile Chevy Challenge will take the green flag at 12:05 PM Sunday.
