FORT WORTH-DALLAS (June 1, 2000) - When Steve Grissom takes the green flag for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Pronto Auto Parts 400 on June 9 at Texas Motor Speedway, the rookie truck driver will feel right at home. Grissom is in his first season in the truck series, driving the #43 Dodge for team owner Richard Petty. But his visit to Texas for this race is not a maiden voyage to the speedway. Grissom has been a regular on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit until this year when he joined Petty's truck team. "Texas is a very fast race track," Grissom said. "It is one we can go out and race against each other. It is always an exciting race when we come here, and I want to be right there at the front challenging to win it." Grissom has a pair of fourth place finishes in 136 Winston Cup starts during his career. But his professional path has taken a different course for 2000. Riding behind the wheel of the #43 truck is a challenge he welcomes with open arms. "Racing trucks is not too different from stock cars," Grissom admitted. "The biggest adjustment is the setup for the race and just getting used to the schedule for practice and qualifying. Understanding the system - such as the limit on tires permissible during a race - has been the biggest thing for me." Grissom is a former NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Champion (1993) and moved on to the Winston Cup circuit in 1994. Now, fulltime with the truck series, he is hoping for a visit to Victory Lane on Friday night, June 9, at the Pronto Auto Parts 400. Qualifying for the Pronto Auto Parts 400 is Thursday, June 8, at 4:15 p.m. The race is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9. Tickets for the race are available by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500 or logging on to www.texasmotorspeedway.com .
