INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 4, 2000) - Randy Tolsma and the No. 25 CITGO-SUPERGARD Motor Oil Dodge team brought home a tenth place finish in the Powerstroke 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
It was a one day show at IRP, and Tolsma was fifth fast in the two hour practice session. After qualifying was complete, Tolsma was in the 18th position to start the race. There was no final practice opportunity for Tolsma and the No. 25 team, so the team had to make adjustments during the race.
"We were a little loose during the qualifying laps," Tolsma said. "Because we could not make adjustments to the truck before the race, we had some ground to make up to get to the front of the pack. Track position is everything here at IRP. We had our hands full the entire night. First we were loose, then we were aero tight, then we got spun out."
Tolsma was caught on the outside during three wide racing in IRP's turn two. With a lapped truck, and the No. 41 truck of Jamie McMurray, Tolsma was spun out by the No. 41 bringing out a caution flag.
"You can't go three wide here. Its not smart racing and someone is going to tear up a truck. Hats off to my crew for pulling off two separate pit stops to change left and right side tires- and keeping me on the lead lap. There was some damage to the truck, but it wasn't serious enough to hold us back."
After the incident, Tolsma worked his way back up through the field. "I think if we could have made our way up to the lead pack, I would have been a contender for at least a top 5. It was the battle in traffic that made the truck loose and tight. "
The finish keeps Tolsma's top-10 streak at IRP alive. Overall this season he has finished 12 times in the top-10. The next stop for Tolsma and Co. on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series circuit is Nashville, Tennessee.
