Sauter Races to Second in Texas
Ft. Worth, Tex. (June 4, 2010) -- After struggling with the handling of the No. 13 In Country Television/Curb Records Chevrolet in the early stages of the race, Johnny Sauter and the ThorSport Racing crew made the right adjustments which allowed Sauter to get back into the fight and race his way to second place in Friday night's WinStar World Casino 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Sauter had been trapped a lap down during a round of green flag pitstops, but a caution flag waved on lap 77 before the entire field had completed their work on pit road and Sauter received the free pass to rejoin the lead lap. Once back on the lead lap, and with the handling issues rectified, Sauter steadily worked his way to the front.
"Joe and the guys did a great job getting us loosened up so we could be competitive at the end," Sauter said. "On the last restart I knew with Todd (Bodine) and Ron (Hornaday) being side by side there was a good chance they would get together and wreck. I could have made it three wide and pushed it but I figured if they did get together we'd get by both of them without having to fight them for it. Somehow Hornaday got loose going into turn three and we didn't have to fight for second with him. It stinks to be that close to winning and not getting it done. We're all pretty competitive and we're here to win races. But it was a good points night for the In Country Television/Curb Records Chevy so we'll look at the big picture and head to Michigan and try to get us another win."
Sauter moves up to fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, 205 points behind Texas winner and current leader Todd Bodine and just 50 points behind Ron Hornaday for fourth.
Next up for Johnny Sauter and the No. 13 Curb Records Chevrolet is the VFW 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday June 12. The race is scheduled for a 2 P.M. Eastern start and will be televised live on SPEED and broadcast on select affiliates of the MRN Radio network nationwide as well as on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128 (XM 104).
